On Dec 18 night, a volcanic eruption in southwest Iceland mesmerized onlookers as lava and smoke spewed across a vast area. Filmed from Keflavik, approximately 24 km away, the fiery eruption contrasted vividly with the dark night sky. The eruption, prompted by weeks of intense earthquake activity, raised concerns for a nearby town. Aerial footage from the Icelandic Coast Guard revealed the orange lava against the night sky. Authorities had previously evacuated Grindavik, fearing a significant outbreak on the Reykjanes peninsula. The crack in the earth’s surface, rapidly expanding to 3.5 km, unleashed 100 to 200 cubic meters of lava per second.
