Massive Protests In Slovakia As Fico’s Reforms Seen As Anti-EU And Pro-Putin Amid Ukraine-Russia War

Thousands are on the streets of major cities across Slovakia to protest against a plan by the new PM Robert Fico to amend the country’s penal code. Opposition leader Michal Simecka said the changes “would result in amnesty for the mafia and corrupt people”. In the streets people repeatedly chanted “We’ve had enough of Fico” for a third week of demonstrations. The protests have been gaining steam since Dec. 7, when hundreds took to the streets of Bratislava. Several protesters have been carrying placards showing Fico and Putin’s pictures, highlighting Fico’s pro-Russia stance. Fico’s critics worry that his return could lead Slovakia to abandon its pro-Western course. Watch this video to know more.
