The Czech Republic declared a day of mourning after a 24-year-old student killed 14 people and injured 25 at the Charles University in Prague. The university, where the bloodshed took place, is located near the Vltava River in Jan Palach Square. The city’s police chief told a press briefing that the death toll may rise further, adding that the shooting had been “a premeditated violent attack”. Following a special cabinet meeting, PM Petr Fiala said December 23 would be “a day of mourning” with flags on official buildings to be flown at half-mast.
