The US-led coalition, Operation Prosperity Guardian, is already encountering significant challenges in its infancy. Operation Prosperity Guardian is aimed at safeguarding shipping in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and Gulf of Aden from Houthi attacks. Pentagon said a total of twenty countries have agreed to take part in the multi-national naval security coalition. However, one of the biggest issues is that of those 20, only a fraction will deploy actual ships or other major assets to help the cause. Meanwhile, Iran has rejected the US claim of Tehran being “deeply involved” in attacks by the Houthi rebels on Israel-linked commercial ships in the Red Sea.
