Russian President Vladimir Putin inaugurated Russia’s newest naval ships at a shipbuilding yard in St Petersburg on Dec 25. Within hours of the flag raising ceremony, a Russian ship was damaged in Crimea in a Ukrainian attack. Ukraine has repeatedly made Crimea and Russia’s Black Sea fleet a target over the last two years, making it more important for Moscow to keep its navy updated. On Monday, Putin visited the new Admiral Golovko frigate, a warship equipped with the Kalibr and Oniks missile systems.
