An anti-landing drill in southwestern Taiwan scheduled for December 28 was the latest military exercise aimed at safeguarding the island’s “red beaches”. The “red beaches” are identified as the most vulnerable locations to China’s potential invasion force. Xishu Beach, the location of the Taiwanese army’s live-fire drill, is near downtown Tainan, a coastal city with nearly 2 million people. Tainan faces the Taiwan Strait, a strategic waterway only 80 miles wide at its narrowest point, separating Taiwan and China.
