On the first day back after the holiday break, tragedy struck at Perry High School in Iowa when 17-year-old student Dylan Butler opened fire, resulting in the death of a sixth-grade student and injuring five others, including a school administrator. Responding officers found Butler with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and discovered an improvised explosive device during a school search. Law enforcement’s swift response involved approximately 150 officers from various agencies. Butler, armed with a pump-action shotgun and handgun, had posted on social media around the time of the incident. The motive remains under investigation as the community grapples with this devastating school shooting.
