As the US struggles to control power in the Middle East, Baghdad has started the process of removing the US-led military coalition in Iraq. On January 5, Iraqi PM Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani said he is determined to “put an end” to the international anti-jihadist coalition w in the country “permanently”. Hassan Nasrallah, the chief of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group, also welcomed Iraq’s move to end US Presence in the country. The Iraqi PM’s statement came just a day after a US strike killed a pro-Iran commander and another member of Harakat al-Nujaba. The US has 900 troops in Syria and 2,500 in Iraq on a mission aimed at helping local forces prevent a resurgence of the Islamic State.
