An oil tanker caught up in a dispute last year between the US and Iran was boarded by armed individuals off the coast of Oman on Jan 11. The state-run IRNA news agency said the “Suez Rajan tanker had earlier stolen an Iranian oil cargo and handed it over to the US”. It said the tanker, which has changed its name to St Nikolas, was carrying oil in the Sea of Oman when it was seized by the Iranian navy. The US oil tanker was seized by a court order in response to the “theft” of Iranian oil, reported the semi-official Mehr news agency. The oil tanker is being transferred to the ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mehr cited Iranian media reports.
