The US and UK carried out strikes against targets linked to Houthis in Yemen on January 11. It’s the first time strikes have been launched against the group since it started targeting international shipping in the Red Sea late last year.A US official said the strikes were carried out using warship-launched Tomahawk missiles, fighter jets and a submarine. US Presdident Joe Biden said that the US and UK, with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, had conducted strikes. Biden called the strikes a “direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea.” A White House statement said the attacks included the use of anti-ship ballistic missiles for the first time in history.
