Somalia said it is prepared to go to war to stop Ethiopia from recognising the breakaway territory of Somaliland and building a port there. The signing of a MoU* on January 1, permitting landlocked Ethiopia to establish a naval base on Somaliland’s coast, rattled the Horn of Africa. Somalia claims Somaliland as part of its territory and has declared the deal void. Meanwhile, rallies have been held in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, against the agreement.
