Thousands of angry German farmers on tractors descended on Berlin on January 15 in a culmination of their week-long protest. The farmers are protesting against the Scholz government’s plans for higher taxes on farming operations and for “fair prices” for their products. Upto 5,000 tractors, 2,000 trucks and some 10,000 demonstrators from around the country are estimated to be at the protest. Meanwhile, the far right is piggybacking on the row, with a “Germany first” narrative appearing to gain wider traction.
