Iran on Jan. 16 launched attacks on Pakistan’s Balochistan province, targeting what it described as bases for the militant group Jaish al-Adl. Pakistan is the third country, after Iraq and Syria, to be hit by Iranian missiles in the last few days. A missile attack by Iran on nuclear-armed Pakistan is near-unprecedented and the strike is said to have hit a village in Balochistan, which borders the two countries. The attack comes a day after Iran launched missiles in northern Iraq and Syria, in the latest escalation of hostilities in the Middle East. Iranian state television network attributed the attack to Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.
