The US military has launched a fresh barrage of ship- and submarine-launched missile strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. Tomahawk missiles were launched from US Navy surface vessels and the USS Florida, a guided missile submarine, according to US officials cited by CNN. US CENTCOM claims the strikes “will degrade the Houthi’s capabilities to continue their reckless attacks on international and commercial shipping”. Hours before the US strike, Genco Picardy, a US-owned ship in the Gulf of Aden was attacked by a bomb-carrying drone launched by Houthi militants in Yemen. The latest American strike appears to indicate that the US is now moving to striking anti-ship weapons before they are launched by the Houthis. However, experts say tackling time-sensitive targets of this nature can be very challenging and resource intensive. Can US sustain expensive, resource-heavy strategy against houthis in Red Sea?
