The US has carried out two more strikes in Yemen early on Jan. 24, destroying two Houthi anti-ship missiles. The missiles “were aimed into the southern Red Sea and were prepared to launch”, US Central Command said in a social media post. It added that the “action will protect the freedom of navigation and make international waters safe and more secure for US navy and merchant vessels.”The US says its forces determined that the Houthi missiles “presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and the US Navy ships in the region.” The strikes, which took place at roughly 2:30 am local time, are the latest in the US-led effort to stop the Houthis targeting ships in the Red Sea. The Houthis have said their attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians as Israel strikes Gaza.
