Iraq’s resistance groups claim to have conducted fresh drone strikes against bases housing American forces across the country. The group said it attacked “the occupation base near Erbil Airport” as well as the Ain al-Asad Airbase in the Iraqi province of al-Anbar. Baghdad and Washington have agreed to set up a committee to start talks on the future of the US-led military coalition in Iraq. Meanwhile, on January 25, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the talks will enable a “transition to an enduring bilateral security partnership”. The Pentagon repeatedly denied that the talks were “a negotiation about the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq” but admitted a “transition” in the US-Iraq partnership.
