Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is preparing to replace his top general amid reports of strained ties between the two. On January 29, Zelensky reportedly offered Valeriy Zaluzhnyi a new role as a Defence Adviser, as per a Financial Times report. However, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces turned down Zelensky’s offer, the outlet added, citing people familiar with the discussions. Zelensky told the military commander he would lose his job regardless of whether he accepted the new role, the FT report added. Reports said it would be the biggest shake-up of Ukraine’s military command since Russia’s February 2022 invasion.
