With war raging in Ukraine, Russia is reportedly importing precision equipment for its arms makers from staunch US ally Taiwan. Taiwan-made precision machine tools were shipped to Russia despite export controls last year, The Washington Post reported. Since January 2023, the Russian firm imported over $20 million of sophisticated equipment called CNC machine tools made in Taiwan. Moscow reportedly received 193 pieces of Taiwanese-made metalworking machinery worth nearly $29 million from March to September 2023. Nearly 80% of the equipment is reportedly sent to Russia via intermediaries, Turkey and China, the investigation revealed.
