Former US President Donald Trump said during a campaign event on February 14 that he’s not going to protect NATO allies who fail to pay their fair share, reiterating a stance that has sparked sharp criticism from Western leaders.NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg warned Europe on Wednesday against trying to go it alone on defence after Trump’s comments had prompted fresh debate over whether the continent can continue to rely on protection from the United States.Speaking to a lively group of supporters at a campaign event in North Charleston, Trump also targeted fellow Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who is making a potential last stand in her home state of South Carolina in its Feb. 24 primary.
