The future of the US Air Force’s Hypersonic “Mayhem” program appears uncertain. Funding issues for the USAF Mayhem program could potentially lead to significant delays. Project Mayhem was set up to create a hypersonic bomber for the USAF, an air- breathing Mach 10 replacement for the SR-71. The air-launched hypersonic air vehicle has been designed to have capabilities for strike and intelligence missions. The Mayhem program has not been allotted government funding in 2024 to proceed beyond its initial scope.
