The US Supreme Court will decide if ex-President Donald Trump is immune from being prosecuted on charges of trying to overturn the 2020 election. The 6-3 conservative majority court decided on February 28 that it would hear arguments and issue a ruling on the immunity claim. This has threatened to delay Trump’s planned trial as the 2024 presidential election cycle heats up. The court will hear arguments on April 22, with a decision likely no later than the end of June. The accelerated timetable raises doubts about completing a trial before the upcoming presidential election, even if Trump’s immunity bid is rejected by the justices.
