German Fighter Jets Begin Air Policing Duties In Latvia

A detachment of German fighter jets began an air space policing mission at Latvia’s Lielvarde air base on March 1 NATO’s Allied Air Command said, making it the third base for the alliance’s aircraft monitoring the skies over the Baltic states.The German detachment of Eurofighter Typhoon jets will remain in Latvia for the mission until November, the Allied Air Command said in a press release.Colonel Viesturs Masulis, the commander of Latvia’s air force, said the arrival of the German jets in Lielvarde was a “strong signal for Russia” and also for Latvian society that they were not alone
