United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at an event on March 18 in Seoul, that technology should be employed to sustain democratic values in the face of efforts by authoritarian and repressive regimes to deploy technology to undermine democracy and human rights.Like-minded governments and their people were working together to promote free and fair elections, said Blinken, who was speaking at the third Summit for Democracy conference in Seoul.In a keynote speech also delivered at the same summit, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol called fake news and disinformation based on AI and digital technology threats to democracy.The democracy summit, hosted by South Korea, is an initiative of U.S. President Joe Biden aimed at discussing ways to stop democratic backsliding and erosion of rights and freedoms.
