Clashes, Coup Charge Against Erdogan In Turkey After Pro-Kurdish Candidate’s Election Win Overturned

Protests broke out in several areas of southeastern Turkey after the mayoral win of a pro-Kurdish candidate was nullified by poll officials. Abdullah Zeydan of the pro-Kurdish DEM Party won the local elections in the city of Van but was replaced with the candidate from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s party. The protest against the election officials’ move began in Van but soon spread to other regions. While hundreds took to the streets in Batman province protesters launched firecrackers in Hakkari with police using water cannons to disperse the crowd.
