The US Navy’s submarine fleet is set to commission the SSN New Jersey, a Virginia-class fast-attack submarine. The SSN New Jersey, officially named SSN 796, is said to be costing approximately $3.5 billion.The Virginia-class submarine is nuclear-powered, allowing for extended operations without refuelling. The SSN 796 is equipped with advanced weapons systems for versatile combat roles. The USS New Jersey Virginia-class submarine is the third naval vessel named after the state of New Jersey. The Virginian-class submarines are designed to be operational for long enough into the 2070s.
