Residents of Khan Younis have started returning to the southern Gaza city, but there is hardly anything left to salvage in the wake of the months-long Israeli offensive. The Israeli army on April 7 announced it was pulling out troops from the devastated city. Much of the area is now in ruins after months of Israeli bombardment and heavy fighting between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants. Khan Younis is “not a city anymore, only rubble”, one resident said.
