Israel is “unhappy” with China’s “not as strong as expected” response to Iran’s missile and drone attack. An Israeli diplomat in China said that Tel Aviv was “hoping for stronger condemnation and clear acknowledgment of Israel’s right to defend itself.” Following the attack on Israel, China’s foreign ministry expressed “deep concern” about the risk of the conflict escalating.Beijing also called for the immediate implementation of a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The Chinese foreign ministry statement had also urged unnamed “influential countries” to play a constructive role.Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi did not condemn Iran’s retaliation and noted Tehran’s statement the attack was an “act of self-defense.” Beijing also appreciated Tehran’s stress on “not targeting regional and neighboring countries,” Wang said.
