Russia Proposes Ban On All Space Weapons As US Claims “Indiscriminate Nuclear Weapon” Threat

A top Pentagon official has warned Russia is developing an “indiscriminate” anti-satellite nuclear device that would pose a threat to all satellites. The top US defence official said Russia’s space weapon would not distinguish among military, civilian or commercial satellites. The US official also warned that the detonation of a Russian nuclear space weapon could render low-Earth orbit unusable for a year. Plumb clarified that the outer space treaty prohibits weapons of mass destruction, and asserted that Russia and China have “militarised” space. Meanwhile, a US official has urged China and Russia to match declarations by the US that only humans, and no AI* would make decisions on nukes deployment.
