Erdogan Releases Elderly 1997 “Postmortem Coup” Generals | Beginning Of Democratic Reform In Turkey?

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan used his presidential power to pardon seven retired generals who were serving life sentences. The retired generals were serving the sentence for their role in a military intervention in Turkey in 1997 known as the February 28 “postmodern coup”. The retired generals have been behind bars since August 2021 after their convictions in 2018 by a high criminal court in Ankara.
