US Lawmakers Urge Unity Against “Tyranny” During Taiwan Visit, China Gives “Interference” Warning

A delegation of US lawmakers met new Taiwan President Lai Ching-te on May 27 and reiterated their support for the island nation. The first group of U.S. lawmakers to visit Taiwan since Lai took office arrived on the island on May 26 for a four-day visit. China’s foreign ministry has called on US lawmakers visiting Taiwan to stop violating the one-China principle after they voiced support for Taiwan. Meanwhile, Taipei said Monday it had detected 21 Chinese military aircraft and 15 navy or coast guard vessels around Taiwan in the past 24 hours.
