US President Biden on June 1 laid out a three-phase Israeli proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for the release of hostages. On May 30, the Israeli proposal was submitted to Hamas via Qatar, Biden revealed, saying “it’s time for this war to end”. The US president said he has “urged the leadership in Israel to stand behind this deal despite whatever pressure comes”. Hamas said it “considers positively” the Israeli roadmap towards a ceasefire announced by Biden after almost eight months of war in Gaza. Meanwhile, the Israeli PM Netanyahu’s office responded coolly, reiterating his intention to continue the Gaza offensive until all war goals are achieved.
