South Africa’s ruling ANC party’s Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said there was nothing to celebrate after the party lost its controlling majority. This came after South Africans angry at joblessness, inequality and power shortages slashed support for the ANC to 40% in the election. The ANC had won every national election by a landslide since the historic 1994 vote that ended white minority rule.
