The German government will revive its compulsory conscription policy as Russia’s war on Ukraine drags on. The German government led by Olaf Scholz has published a 67-page document outlining the new conscription policy. The updated 1989 Framework Directive for Overall Defence (RRGV) calls on its people to serve the “Vaterland.” Berlin’s move came as NATO plans to send US troops to protect bloc’s eastern flank in Europe in the event of an attack by Moscow.
