The Cuban government has criticized the presence of the USS fast attack submarine Helena at the US naval base in Cuba’s Guantanamo. Havana said while the US had notified it of the submarine’s movements, it did not approve of such visits. “Naval visits to a country are usually the result of an invitation, and this was not the case,” said Cuba’s Vice Foreign Minister. Havana is already hosting a Russian nuclear powered submarine in its harbour. Hard on the heels of the two submarines from Russia and the US, a Canadian Navy patrol ship has also docked in Cuba.
