Russia’s Pacific Fleet Flexes Naval Muscles With Drills Close To South Korea As Putin Visits Kim

Amid a raging war in Ukraine and tensions with the West, Russia’s Pacific Fleet is deploying forces as part of planned exercises in the Far East. Russia started a 10-day naval exercise on June 18 in the Pacific Ocean and waters close to South Korea and Japan. Several ships and a submarine sailed out to sea from the Far East city of Vladivostok, an operational base for Russia’s Pacific Fleet. The naval drills in the Pacific Ocean, Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk will involve “40 ships, boats and support vessels.”
