Daniel Hagari, the spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) appeared to contradict the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu-led Israeli government’s stated aim of the months-long war in the besieged territory of Gaza – the “defeat” of Hamas. He said, “Hamas is an idea… Whoever thinks we can eliminate Hamas is wrong.”The statement came even as Netanyahu remains defiant on “eliminating” Hamas irrespective of a ceasefire deal.
