Yemen’s Houthi militia released a video on July 2 threatening to destroy any US aircraft carrier entering the Red Sea. The Houthi threat comes after the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of America’s 11 nuclear-powered “supercarriers” exited the region. The Eisenhower was rushed to the region in the days following Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel and led the response against Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.The warship’s combat deployment in the region has lasted over eight months, which the US Navy says is its most intense since World War II. The US has said that USS Theodore Roosevelt is travelling from the Pacific region to take over the Eisenhower’s duties. The video shows Houthi chief Abdul-Malik al-Houthi declaring that the “incoming aircraft carrier is a primary target.” On June 22, the Yemeni group claimed that its forces had attacked the US aircraft carrier Eisenhower in the Red Sea. However, US officials has termed the Houthi claim about the strike on the US aircraft carrier as “false and incorrect.”
