Israel’s military ramped up attacks on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 77 Palestinians, including dozens sheltering at a school on July 9. The attacks came as Hamas warned that the stepped-up Israeli offensive could jeopardise mediated ceasefire talks. In the town of Abbasan, east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, an Israeli air attack on the al-Awdah school killed at least 30 people and wounded 53. Germany said that a deadly Israeli strike on a school in southern Gaza being used as a shelter was “unacceptable”. Meanwhile, the Israeli army dropped thousands of leaflets on Gaza City urging all residents to leave amid an intensified military offensive. The IDF said that one overnight attack in Gaza City targeted Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets operating from inside the UNRWA headquarters.
