At the NATO summit in Washington, US President Joe Biden and other NATO member state leaders are set to announce new aid packages and emphasize a membership pledge for Ukraine. Biden, reaffirming support for Kyiv amidst the Russian invasion, declared, “We can and will defend every inch of NATO territory and we will do it together” as the summit’s first work session commenced. A draft communique from the 32-nation alliance meeting indicated that allies plan to provide Ukraine with at least 40 billion euros ($43.28 billion) in military aid over the next year. However, the draft fell short of the multi-year commitment that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had advocated.
