A US-led coalition captured a senior member of the Islamic State group in northwest Syria on Aug. 20, state media and a war monitor reported. Helicopters and drones provided air cover to the troops that landed in the Syrian town of Atmeh, near the Turkish border. The person taken captive has been identified in reports as Abu Hafs al-Qurayshi, an Iraqi citizen and IS commander, who was detained in a pre-dawn operation. Another Iraqi citizen, identified by Syrian state TV as Ali, aka Salah Numan, was killed. Meanwhile, an AFP report, citing state TV, identified Numan as the IS leader who was targeted in the US-led attack.
